Testarossa Replica Build. - Jigsaw - 10-18-2022

Hey there everyone, My name is Michael. I was Bodyman on Madmechanics with my Testarossa Replica Build. I will revive my thread here. I have made a lot of progress on it that I havent shared yet. I will start at the beginning and work my way up. Get ready for lots of pictures. I havent found any other build threads on a Testarossa or a 512TR replica so I have documented every step with pictures. Stay tuned pics and post coming soon.

OK here we go, Ill start at the beginning, This is the pictures of when i first went to look at the car for sale. I purchased this Testarossa replica in 2012. the car was mostly complete and running and driving. The only information I have on it was that it was built and registered in Hollywood. Supposedly as a second movie prop car but there is no documentation to prove that. The car is a very accurate looking car at 50 feet... Up close you begin to see the little things that give it away. This car has had the 7 1/4 extension, as well as a 1.25 rear cabin drop. it is correct length and the cabin drop gives it a more sloped look at the rear of the car. It has open quarter windows with real glass, and the side fins are actual metal. The areas that bug me are.... the gap where the deck lid meets the back roof line. The flat windshield, The front fender openings look horrible, the one piece rocker panels and the panel alignment throughout the car. I have been building this for almost two years and its nearing the end of the journey. I wanted to share the experience of building this car. There are not very many Testarossa build threads out there so any shared knowledge helps. I will post pics and go through the things that bugged me the most as well as the repairs that I have done to resolve the issues.

I had to get the wife involved, The rear deck was bolted closed and she was able to get to the hidden bolts.

Ok starting on the deck lid. It was about 3/4 of an inch lower then the rear section of the cabin. In order to obtain the correct shape on the top and bottom of the lid I cut it right below the top body line and opened it up to get it flush with the top. After setting the position I removed the deck lid and turned it upside down. I applied resin and matte fiberglass in three layers with an overlap of about two inches on each side of the opening.

This is the rear gap after the work on the deck lid. Final shaping will come at the end when all the bodywork gets done

The Motor in the car has been massaged and is super healthy, But its a sideways V6 in a Testarossa.. so Im gonna have to fix that... On to build my 12 cylinder engine........... cover that is..lol.
I always use cardboard to make rough templates, then cut it out in metal. getting the shape was tricky. It involves a custom air intake and brackets. This heat escapes through vents and basically lots of thinking outside of the box

Now I begin making templates for the rear compartment panels. I wanted to make this part of the engine bay so it looked more the part. I took inspiration from the Koenig Testarossa engine bay.
